Site 15 consists of a moderately dense scatter of nail manufacturing
artifacts and a very light density of domestic artifacts measuring
60 feet east/west by 130 feet north/south. One piece of porcelain
and one piece of dark gren bottle glass coupled with hand wrought
nails indicate that the site was occupied during Jefferson's lifetime.
The great majority of recovered artifacts (94%) relate to nail
manufacturing (wrought nails, nailrod, slag, charcoal and coal).
Given this evidence, the site represents a nailery whose operation
may have been concurrent with the opeartion on Mulberry
Row.
