Objective: To determine the amount of knowledge students have about Thomas Jefferson.

Preparation (Important!): Teacher will set defaults of the students' Internet browser so that links do not change color when followed. In Netscape, one does this by selecting Options, then General Preferences, then Colors. From this page, in the "Use My Colors For" box, click to mark an "x" in the boxes for "links" and "followed links." Click on the colored rectangle, and then select a color by clicking on the color wheel that will appear. Choose the same color for links and followed links. In Internet Explorer, the procedure is similar and is found under: View/Options/General.

Procedure:

  1. Teacher will introduce the purpose of the lesson and either subdivide the class into groups according to the number of computer terminals available or allow the students to work as a class.
  2. Students will do the online quiz "Are you Ready to Learn More About Thomas Jefferson?"
  3. Teacher will discuss the answers and lead a general discussion on the information gleaned from doing the quiz.
