Digital Archaeological Records
More than 90,000 artifacts unearthed in excavations of Monticello's Mulberry Row since the 1980s have been carefully re-analyzed in recent years. The results have been entered in a database incorporating archaeological material from slave-related sites at other historic properties in Virginia, the Carolinas, and the Caribbean. The product of this effort--the Digital Archaeological Archive of Comparative Slavery--makes it possible for researchers to do comparative studies on the African-American experience in a number of locations during the colonial and antebellum periods.
