Samuel Henley

The Reverend Samuel Henley (1749-1819) was a professor of Moral Philosophy at William and Mary College, secretary of the Virginia Society for the Promotion of Useful Knowledge in 1772, and a friend of Thomas Jefferson. He departed Williamsburg in 1775 for England, leaving behind a large collection of books in the care of Reverend James Madison. Thomas Jefferson bought a number of these books.[1]
