Seen on the Net attributed to TJ: "The issue today is the same as it has been throughout all history, whether man shall be allowed to govern himself, or be ruled by a small elite."
Can't find it here, on your search bar, or in the Spurious list. It sounds consistent with his ideas, but I'm not so sure about the language.

Seen in several places, including the net and attributed to TJ:
"All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent". Is it genuine TJ or not? Thanks.
Hi Chris - Nope, it's not a Jefferson quote. I've got a page up on this one now: http://www.monticello.org/site/research-and-collections/all-tyranny-need...

Steve, that quotation is nowhere to be found in Jefferson's papers as far as I can tell.
