Thomas Jefferson listed 16 herbs in his Garden Book in 1794 under "Objects for the garden this year":[1]

  • balm [Melissa officinalis - known as lemon balm]

  • lavender [Lavandula angustifolia]
  • marjoram [Majorana hortensis]
