E.O. Wilson, Janet Napolitano, and Joseph Neubauer to receive 2010 Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medals

The University of Virginia and the Thomas Jefferson Foundation will present their highest honors, the Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medals in architecture, law, and citizen leadership, during Founder’s Day activities on April 13. The awards are presented jointly by UVa and by the foundation, the independent, nonprofit organization that owns and operates Monticello.
E.O. Wilson, Harvard University environmentalist, scientist, and ethicist, will receive the 2010 Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medal in Architecture;
Janet Napolitano, U.S. secretary of homeland security, will receive the 2010 Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medal in Law; and Joseph Neubauer, chairman and chief executive officer of ARAMARK, will receive the 2010 Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medal in Citizen Leadership.

Monticello's new visitor center earns LEED Gold certification

The Thomas Jefferson Foundation has been awarded LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for the Thomas Jefferson Visitor Center and Smith Education Center at Monticello.
The Monticello facility is the first visitor center at a World Heritage site in the United States and one of only five visitor centers in the country to earn LEED Gold certification.
