Please review the information below to see many common questions and answers about our internship program. If you still cannot find the answer you are looking for, please email internships@monticello.org with any questions.

Am I eligible to apply for an internship?
All applicants must complete a minimum of one year of undergraduate studies before starting an internship though some positions require two years (see internship descriptions for requirements).  Preference for internships will be given to undergraduate and graduate students who are currently enrolled in a college or university or have recently earned a degree.

How do I apply?
Please follow the link here and use our online application system to apply.

When is the deadline to apply?
We will have Spring and Summer internships available in 2024. Please visit the specific job advertisement to review the application deadline for that position. Typically, offers are extended in early to mid-April for summer internships.

Do I get paid?
Internships may have an hourly wage or a stipend depending on the position and scope of projects. If you would like to receive academic credit for your internship, please inquire with your university to see if this can be arranged.  We will make accommodations for this whenever possible.

When do they start/end?
Most internships are twelve weeks and will run from mid/late May to the beginning of August. We offer some semester-based internships as well; following most college semester calendars. Detailed schedules will be determined on an individual basis once the final candidates have been identified.

Can I apply for more than one internship?
Yes; please apply for all internships that are of interest to you.

Do you need an official transcript?
No; please include an unofficial copy of your transcript. You may upload the document to your application.  You will be notified if we require anything else.

One of my references wants to send my letter of recommendation directly to you. Can this be done?
Yes; if one of your references wishes to send something directly to us please use the following address:

I would like to be involved at Monticello, but I don’t have the time to commit to an internship.  What can I do?
There are volunteer opportunities for those who are able to commit to working at the Foundation a minimum of 8 hours per month.  Please email volunteer@monticello.org if you would like to pursue this option.
