In his new book, The Leaders We Deserve (and a few we didn't), Alvin Felzenberg does not create one master presidential ranking, but creates certain categories and ranks each president in those categories. So, how did Jefferson do? Pretty good, let's take a look. On a score from 5 (the highest) to 1 (the lowest): Character: 3; Vision: 4; Competence: 4; Economic Policy: 3; Preserving & Extending Liberty: 3; Defense, National Security, & Foreign Policy: 3.
