I've worked at Monticello for 5 years, both in the Restoration Department and for the last for the last 4 years, in the Curatorial Department. Prior to coming to Monticello, my work was primarily in museum interpretation. I work now as a Curatorial Assistant, caring for the fantastic collection in the house and exhibits. My favorite daily activity is checking out the sunrise on the East Portico at Monticello.
I love watching guests on tours at Monticello when a clock strikes. Why? The look of surprise, then inevitably, a whisper, “wow, the clock still works,” and even better, “it’s nearly on time.” It makes me wonder: how many people know what goes on inside a museum like Monticello before the doors open to visitors?more »
Most of the objects in the house get dusted on a daily basis. Curatorial Assistants are in the house hours before the house and grounds open to the public.
