Charitable Annuities

JeffersonThere are many ways to make a gift today that will benefit Monticello sometime in the future. A Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA) is a gift that will provide a donor [or the donor's designated annuitant(s)] with fixed income payments for life and provide generous support for the Thomas Jefferson Foundation.

A CGA is an irrevocable gift to Monticello, and may be established with a gift of cash, appreciated securities or real estate. The CGA is a contract between the donor(s) and the Thomas Jefferson Foundation. Under this contract the donor(s) contributes assets to the Foundation, which in turn provides a guaranteed fixed income for life for one or two beneficiaries. The amount of the annuity payment is dependent upon the age(s) of the designated annuitant(s) at the time of the gift and remains constant for life. (The Foundation pays the rates of return offered by the American Council on Gift Annuities.) In addition to supporting the Thomas Jefferson Foundation, donors may claim a charitable income tax deduction in the year the gift is made to the Foundation.

The Foundation is prepared to work with donors, their attorneys, and financial planners in setting up and administering trusts, to include the preparation of trust tax returns. For more information, please call Joshua Scott at (434) 984-9829, or e-mail us at jscott@monticello.org.
