Gilder Lehrman Junior Research Fellowship
These fellowships are are open to scholars working on Jefferson projects. Fellows will devote their time to research and writing on topics directly related to Thomas Jefferson, his times, and legacy. The award is intended to support revision of the fellow's book manuscript, but consideration will be given to candidates who propose to undertake original research.
The fellowship carries a stipend of $35,000 for nine months. The fellow will be provided with an office in the Foundation's Jefferson Library and will be invited to participate in conferences, seminars, and other scholarly activities organized by the ICJS. The University of Virginia Press will consider the resulting manuscript for publication in the Jeffersonian America Series. During their residencies, fellows are expected to deliver an informal 45-minute talk on their projects.
Applicants should submit a book-length manuscript, a résumé, a brief description of the project (2,000 words), a one-paragraph summary of the project, and a prospective timetable for completion of the project. Three references should be sent directly to the ICJS at the address below. The application deadline is November 1. The award will be made no later than the following February 1.
