Jefferson’s Neighborhood Too
Beginning with a visit to Montalto, and the following week –the Jefferson home site at Shadwell, this six-part series will build on previous lectures to include Jefferson’s “ornamental precinct” around Monticello, the task of bringing food from the gardens to the table, and the image created by Jefferson’s family to manage his reputation. The series will conclude with an informal reception on the mountain and a private tour at Monticello focusing on Jefferson’s interest in grape cultivation. Indoor lectures at the Jefferson Library. Light to moderate walking outdoors during site visits. In cases of extreme weather outdoor lectures will be moved to an indoor location.
