Calling All Scouts!

Come to Monticello and learn about Thomas Jefferson's love of gadgets and design! In addition to enjoying a special tour of Jefferson’s world-famous house, scouts and troop leaders are invited to explore Monticello’s hands-on Griffin Discovery Room and various museum exhibits. Indoor and outdoor activity stations (open 10AM – 3PM) will highlight the many uses and playful applications of technology and neo-classical architecture at Jefferson's iconic home, Monticello. A Heritage Chocolate demonstration and tasting will delight the taste buds. This year we are working with the Scholar's Lab at the University of Virginia to add demonstrations on 3D printing and (weather permitting) "Do-It-Yourself Aerial Photography."

Programming for Scouting Day is geared for scouts of all ages. All scouts will receive a Monticello patch for participating in the day’s activities. Bring your own lunch to eat in the picnic area or purchase from the Monticello café. Please wear Girl Scout USA or Boy Scouts of America uniform or identifier. Tickets are non-refundable. Pre-registration is strongly suggested.

Please note: When purchasing Scouting Day tickets, you will be asked to reserve your group’s timed house tour slot. You must arrive at Monticello at least 30 minutes prior to your selected House Tour time to avoid missing your reserved tour. A Scouting Day ticket will give you access to activity stations any time between 10AM and 3PM; feel free to drop in before or after your morning or afternoon tour.

All minors must be accompanied by an adult chaperone.

We are a scouting family who will be visiting for the first time (kids at least) this summer. I am super interested in what types of things they did for Scout Day and that your tour guide included for both a cub and boy scout.
Thanks for posting!

I would like to thank you for providing Scout Day at Thomas Jefferson Monticello. My Cub Scouts are working on their Youth Patriotism Award. I was most impressed when our tour guide for the home of Thomas Jefferson did his homework and incorported scout badges within this tour. As it turned out, he is an Eagle Scout. I have special thanks to the reservations department for ensuring our group had the same tour time for Thomas Jefferson's home, Kudos to them!!! Highlights from the scouts perspective are: writing with a quill, the games offered near Thomas Jefferson's home and all of the hands on activities at the Visitors Center.

Thanks again, we had a fantastic time

We are excited for Scouting Day tomorrow! Tag any photos you take with #MonticelloScout - there should be LOTS worth photographing! Extra credit for anyone who uses a hashtag on a shot taken at the aerial photography station!

A quick thank-you to the nearly 400 scouts and troop leaders who came to today's event! We enjoyed ourselves and hope you did, too. So glad the rain held off for your special day! Stay tuned for our favorite Scouting Day photos and instructions for how you can share you own on our website and social media pages.

Hello, scouts! Be sure to wear your boots and slickers tomorrow; the forecast is calling for warm temperatures but rain throughout the day. With that in mind, we're moving some outdoor activities to covered spaces to help keep everyone comfortable. Rain or shine, we're looking forward to it!

Scouting Day is just one week from today! We're looking forward to the fun-filled day on the Mountain and are busy prepping activity stations for you and your scouts. Keep those fingers crossed for sunny skies and we'll see you on March 16!
