As a teacher of history, I was excited to read the much-hyped "The Hemingses of Monticello," but found it to be long-winded and nearly unreadable. For my money, a much better choice on the topic is, "The Jefferson-Hemings Controvery: Report of the Scholars Commission," which I picked up at the Monticello gift shop. I only wish I had found it first. It is available here on Amazon for those who wish to read it before visiting Monticello: amazon.com/The-Jefferson-Hemings-Controversy-Scholars-Commission/dp/0890890854/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

The book you recommend for kids, Our White House: Looking In, Looking Out, is one of my favorites, too, something I've given my neice and nephew as a gift! Good choice!!
