The 279th anniversary of Thomas Jefferson's birth was marked with a ceremony and celebration—complete with a performance from the U.S. Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps—on the West Lawn.

Sherrie Rollins Westin, the 2022 recipient of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medal in Citizen Leadership, gave the keynote address. As the president of Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind “Sesame Street,” Westin leads efforts to serve vulnerable children through mass media and targeted initiatives.
