Andrew O'Shaughnessy, the Saunders Director of the Robert H. Smith International Center for Jefferson Studies (ICJS), has completed the book manuscript for ‘The Illimitable Freedom of the Human Mind:’ Thomas Jefferson’s Idea of a University. The manuscript has been submitted to a group of senior scholars for a virtual workshop on April 17.

The ICJS is also offering virtual “fellowships” to allow fellows who were originally scheduled to come this spring to continue their research.

The Papers of Thomas Jefferson: Retirement Series has been able to continue working productively on its primary tasks, seeing Volume 17 through to publication and preparing the next two volumes for submission to the press. Staff already had been equipped to operate remotely, and everyone is now working mostly from home. Papers staff are also working to identify a body of Jefferson-family documents that could be given to other TJF-staff for initial transcription work if suitable candidates can be identified.
