Congratulations to the winners of this year’s Postcard Contest, presented by Monticello and HISTORY®! Students in grades Pre-K through 12 were challenged to create an original postcard that illustrated how Thomas Jefferson influenced their hometown. Postcards were judged on creativity and historic accuracy, and encompassed everything from public education to the Lewis & Clark Expedition, the fight for independence, civil rights, neighborhood parks, iconic architecture, music, macaroni, and more. We were overjoyed to receive close to 1,300 contest submissions from 40 states and territories – together they illustrate the myriad ways Jefferson’s life and legacy continue to influence our world today.
Thank you to all student participants and congratulations on your good work and scholarship. Thank you to all the teachers who made each entry possible. We salute you for your tireless efforts to inspire tomorrow’s generation and support students as they strive to define the meaning of those timeless words, “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
