The performance will bring to life Monticello as Thomas Jefferson knew it, and include the sounds and songs that Jefferson, his family and the enslaved community encountered both on the mountaintop and elsewhere. Miriam Gordon-Stewart - Soprano / Artistic Director
Australian soprano Miriam Gordon-Stewart has gained recognition across four continents for her powerful instrument and dramatic vulnerability, specializing in the repertoire of Wagner and Strauss. Described in the French press as “a genuine singer-actress”, she has performed over 40 leading roles at major opera houses including the Sydney Opera House, Hamburg State Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Châtelet (Paris), Korean National Opera and the Bayreuth Festival. She has also performed in concert with the Dresden Philharmonic, the Gulbenkian Orchestra, Lisbon and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
Carlton Ford - Baritone
Dynamic baritone Carlton Ford has performed with Le Théâtre du Châtelet, the New York Philharmonic, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Houston Grand Opera, the Aspen Music and Glimmerglass Festivals, and at Carnegie Hall, and was both the First Place and Grand PrizeWinner in Chicago’s Bel Canto Foundation Competition.
Brenda Patterson - Mezzo-soprano/ Director of Music
Virginia-raised mezzo-soprano Brenda Patterson has been at the forefront of contemporary vocal music for over 15 years, recognized as much for her artistic bravery as for the beauty and warmth of her voice. A graduate of The Juilliard School and Barnard College, Brenda was at the Hamburg State Opera before continuing to La Scala in Milan and the Metropolitan Opera, where she was on the roster for seven seasons, and at Opera Colorado, Glimmerglass Opera, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, and Florida Grand Opera, among others. Brenda has premiered over 30 vocal works and is also an official vocal consultant to the composers-in-residence at Opera Philadelphia.
Alyson Cambridge - Soprano
American soprano Alyson Cambridge has enjoyed over a decade of success on the world's leading opera and concert stages, including The Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Washington National Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Carnegie Hall, London's Royal Albert Hall, Deutsche Oper Berlin, and the Vienna Konzerthaus, to name a few, in repertoire that includes the beloved heroines of Puccini, Verdi and Mozart. A versatile vocalist, she has also made successful forays into jazz and music theater repertoire, with award-winning performances of Julie in Show Boat, and critical acclaim for her most recent album, "Until Now". Ms. Cambridge can also be heard on her recording of Bolcom's "From the Diary of Sally Hemings", and her upcoming album, "Sisters in Song", a mix of classical and spiritual duets with soprano Nicole Cabell.
