Painting Botanical Specimens in Sepia with Lara Call Gastinger

This exclusive, one-day painting workshop features watercolor instruction by renowned botanical artist Lara Call Gastinger, illustrator of the Flora of Virginia. Enjoy painting dried seed pods and nuts using a single, reddish-brown color, or sepia. Painting in one color is ideal for students new to watercolor and also for developing brush control.

You will need to bring the following supplies for this Botanical Painting Class (paint will be provided):

  • round watercolor paintbrushes (Raphael Kolinsky sable # 8408 size 4, 2 or Series 7 brushes)
  • water dish
  • watercolor palette (a white dinner plate is recommended)
  • kneaded eraser
  • HB pencil
  • approximately 11x14 sheet of HOT press 300 lb watercolor paper (Fabriano)
  • small portable desk light (optional)
