Canterbury Bells

A native of southern Europe, Canterbury Bells are naturalized in North America. This colorful biennial were popular in early American gardens.

Jefferson recorded the planting of "Bellflower" on both sides of the roundabout flower border in 1812. The biennial Canterbury bell, like the Hollyhock and the Sweet William, is typically associated with early American flower gardens.
