George Carr
Albemarle County lawyer George Carr (1800–1886) was hired by Monticello owner Uriah Levy in 1838 to manage the estate during his absences, a role he held — with Civil War interruptions — until 1879.

George Carr (1800-1886) was born in Albemarle County, Virginia, on November 16, 1800, the son of Micajah Carr (1752-1812) and Elizabeth Wood Carr. He was educated in the local schools, and in 1822 he was licensed to practice law in Virginia.
In 1838, Carr was hired by Uriah Levy, who had purchased Monticello several years earlier, to manage the estate during Levy's absences. He continued to do so, with a few interruptions owing to the Civil War, until Levy's nephew Jefferson Monroe Levy acquired Monticello in 1879. Carr died in 1886.
