Globe Centaurea
Centaurea macrocephala
A robust perennial from the Caucasus with a crown of rich yellow florets.
This uncommon yellow-flowering, almost thistle-like perennial -- a native of the Caucasus -- was sent to Monticello by Bernard McMahon in 1812. Nearly half of the flower species cultivated at Monticello originated with this Philadelphia nurseryman.
In Bloom at Monticello is made possible by support from The Richard D. and Carolyn W. Jacques Foundation.
