Over the course of a long public career, Thomas Jefferson employed several personal secretaries. The list below provides the names and dates of service of some of the men who served Jefferson in that capacity.

- Meriwether Lewis: April 1801 - 1803
- Lewis Harvie: June 6, 1803 - March 18041
- William A. Burwell: March 1804 - Fall 1804; Spring 1805; Summer 18062
- Isaac A. Coles: Winter 1804 - 1805; Winter 1805 - 1806; October 1806 - March 18093
- Nicholas P. Trist: 1820s
