About The Event

The Chinese porcelain plates on display in the visitor center gallery were excavated from the "Building o" archaeological site on Mulberry Row. Occupied during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, "Building o" housed enslaved laborers who likely worked on the Monticello mountaintop.

Corey Sattes, Monticello's Curator of Archaeological Collections, will discuss how these remarkable artifacts are revealing new insights into the site's dynamic history and the experiences of the people who called it home.
