Spider Flower

Cleome hasslerana

A self-seeding annual native to South America. Considered a choice flowering annual by Robert Buist in his 1839 edition of The American Flower Garden Directory, Spider Flower attracts pollinators with a show of pink and white blooms.

The annual Spider Flower has been traditionally associated with the restored flower gardens at Monticello. Its showy pink flowers, large multi-lobed leaves, and strong habit growth (to five or six feet) make it a handsome addition to the Monticello Winding Flower Walk.

In Bloom at Monticello is made possible by support from The Richard D. and Carolyn W. Jacques Foundation.
