Climb the Mountain, Discover America
The new "Climb the Mountain, Discover America" strategic plan looks to seize the generational opportunity of 2026 and position Monticello as the nation's top historical destination for visitors of all ages and backgrounds, from all nations, both on-site and online. This plan will utilize the beauty and significance of our well-preserved historic site to share honest stories about America's complex origins and its ongoing journey toward the ideals expressed by Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence.
We seek to connect the natural, built, and historical landscapes of the Jefferson era to our scholarly, educational, and visitor programs.
Supporting the flourishing of Monticello's staff and enhancing their impact on their fields is a major goal its strategic plan.
A major strategic goal for Monticello is to connect more deeply to local and regional community members and stakeholders.
Thomas Jefferson's Monticello serves the whole of America and stands for America’s founding aspirations around the globe.
