Love-in-a-Mist
Nigella damascena
Native to southern Europe, Love-in-a-Mist is a self-seeding annual with handsome blue, white, or pink flowers amidst delicate, lacy foliage.
Love-in-a-mist has been grown in gardens since the late sixteenth century. English herbalists such as John Gerard and John Parkinson knew double forms which seem to have disappeared today. A related species, Nutmeg flower (Nigella sativa), was planted in an oval flower bed at Monticello on April 18, 1810.
