In 1807, Jefferson ordered Wallflowers from Bernard McMahon for the newly installed flower beds at Monticello. Wallflowers were grown in British gardens since 1573 and cultivated in America by the early 1700s) This is the double lemon-yellow, fragrant wallflower variety.
