School Scholarships

We are grateful for the generous support of The Charles Fund, Inc., The Joseph and Robert Cornell Memorial Foundation, and the Mitford Angel Fund, whose contributions make scholarship support possible.
Virginia and out-of-state schools are encouraged to apply, with priority given to Title I schools and/or schools serving students with free or reduced lunch (FRL) needs. Scholarship awards are based on eligibility, region, available funding, and demonstrated financial need.

Support may include admission, transportation, or both.

Admission (if awarded): Can cover students, required adults (1 per 24 students), and school staff. Additional parent or guardian chaperones are not covered but may attend at the school group rate.

Transportation (if awarded): Covers direct round-trip bus transportation for Virginia schools only, with priority given to Southwest Virginia (VDOE Region 7). Transportation support does not cover airfare or lodging. Schools arrange transportation. If awarded, Monticello will either pay the bus company directly or reimburse the school with a PDF invoice and W-9.

Local Schools: Full School Coverage 

Schools in our local area may be eligible for full scholarship support, including student and school staff admission, and transportation. Our local area includes Charlottesville City Schools and schools in the following counties: Albemarle, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Madison, Nelson, Orange, Augusta, and Rockingham.

• Scholarships are first-come, first-servedand subject to available funding
• Generally, schools may receive one scholarship per academic year (block scheduling exceptions may apply)
• If scholarship funds are exhausted, schools may:
  • Cancel their reservation at no cost up to 48 hours before their visit
  • Keep their reservation without scholarship support
  • Choose a different date or season

1.  Reserve Your Visit (Required)
   Reserve your visit first—either by emailing [email protected] or submitting the Student Field Trip Form. You’ll receive a confirmation order number, which is required for scholarship review.
2. Apply Within 10 Days
   Submit the scholarship request form within 10 calendar days of reserving your visit. Requests without an order number cannot be reviewed.
3. Tell Us What You Need
   In the application form, you’ll share information about your school and visit details, what support you’re requesting and a brief impact statement.
4. Transportation requests: If transportation support is awarded, we’ll ask for a bus quote (PDF) after funding confirmation.
5. Review & Decision
   Our team will review your request and email the decision. If awarded, we’ll update your reservation confirmation to reflect the scholarship and any remaining balance.
