Founding Friends, Founding Foes Tour
This tour of Monticello reveals how Jefferson and Adams became allies in revolution, bitter rivals in politics, and friends again in retirement.
A special program in 2026
Mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence with a special guided theatrical experience inside the Monticello house featuring Thomas Jefferson, as interpreted by veteran historical interpreter, Bill Barker.
This immersive program invites you to reflect on the Declaration, its creation, and the transformative ideas that shaped a new nation. Offered only in 2026, don’t miss this unique opportunity to honor America’s founding in the very place where Jefferson dreamed of liberty and independence.
An opportunity for photographs and conversations with Bill Barker as Thomas Jefferson will follow each program. This program includes access to our gardens and grounds walking tour, family-friendly activities, and exhibits, only prior to the program start time. The property will be closed when the program ends.
