Author Jocelyn Nicole Johnson on Monticello's Mulberry Row

Join us on Wednesday, October 13, for an in-person—and virtual!—book talk and signing with Jocelyn Nicole Johnson.

Johnson, a long-time Charlottesville resident, will discuss her debut collection, My Monticello. The book’s title novella—which Netflix plans to turn into a film—takes place in Charlottesville in the near future, after an ecological disaster leads to societal collapse. Fleeing violent white supremacists, a young woman who’s descended from Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings leads a group of refugees to take shelter in Monticello.

Johnson will be joined in conversation by Monticello Public Historian and Director of the Getting Word African American Oral History Project, Andrew Davenport. Book signing will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the book talk at 6:30 p.m.

This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required for in-person attendance. For the safety of our staff and guests, in-person attendance is limited, and the talk will be held outdoors. Facial coverings are required when inside buildings.
