From military to local resident discounts, there are many ways to save on tickets for Monticello experiences. We also participate in partner programs that offer special discounts at Monticello and throughout the state. Browse the options below to learn more about how to save on your next visit to Monticello.

  • Military — Free select tours year-round for active-duty service members, with discounts and special Veterans Day Weekend access for veterans.
  • Museums for All — SNAP recipients can reserve free tour tickets through our Museums for All program.
  • Local Universities — Students from select local institutions can visit at a discounted rate with a valid student ID.
  • Virginia 250 Passport — Collect stamps at Virginia's top historic sites and save 15% on select tours.
  • Memberships — Unlimited year-round access that pays for itself in just two visits.
  • Locals — Specially priced membership rates for residents of Charlottesville and surrounding counties.

Military Discounts

Please note: Discounts apply to the service-member’s ticket only. Tickets for dependents can be reserved at our standard rates.

Active duty

Admission for active-duty military personnel is free year-round for any Standard Rate Tour.

Veterans

Receive a year-round discounted price of $32 for adult Standard Rate Tour tickets ($10 savings) and $16 for a Grounds Ticket ($6 savings). 

Every Veterans Day Weekend, veterans receive free admission for a Standard Rate Tour or Grounds Ticket (as availability permits).

  • Highlights Tour - The most popular way to tour Monticello.
  • From Slavery to Freedom Tour - Legacies of slavery and freedom at Monticello.
  • Founding Friends, Founding Foes Tour - Jefferson, Adams, and politics.
  • Grounds Ticket - Explore the historic mountaintop exhibits. House not included.
  • Family Friendly Tour - Inspire your young learners (available seasonally).
  • Women at Monticello - Stories of enslaved and free women (available seasonally).

Reserve Online and Pick-up in Person (Recommended)

  1. Purchase tickets online for a Standard Rate Tour or Grounds Ticket for ALL persons in your party (including the active-duty service member or veteran) and children. This will ensure your reservation and ability to tour with your group.
  2. At the Monticello Ticket Office - a minimum of 30 minutes prior to your reserved tour time - present your DOD-issued ID card and you will receive a refund for the active-duty service member or veteran ticket. Note: You must present the same card used to purchase the original ticket(s) online in order to receive your refund.
  3. Pick up your ticket(s) and enjoy your visit to Monticello.
