Parking is free, and the visitor center has exhibits to see before you head up the mountain. Be sure to check out the large bronze model of the plantation, complete with miniature forests and fields, and the exhibits about Jefferson's agricultural ventures.
Walk or ride the shuttle to the historic mountaintop and enjoy a tour of the rooms on the first floor of the house. Be sure to check out Jefferson's small greenhouse attached to his personal suite. If you're short on time, use a Grounds Ticket for access to all exterior areas and exhibits.
The lower level of the house and wings give visitors a glimpse into how enslaved chefs and cooks prepared often-elaborate meals in the kitchens of the South Wing. Don't miss the wine cellar and its dumbwaiter as you walk through the basement of the main house, and be sure to stop by the Farm Shop for a coffee, pastry, snack, or light lunch, located under the North Wing.
