Explore these suggested activities at your own pace

  • Park and explore the visitor center

    Parking is free, and the visitor center has exhibits to see before you head up the mountain. Be sure to check out the large bronze model of the plantation, complete with miniature forests and fields, and the exhibits about Jefferson's agricultural ventures.

  • Take a Highlights Tour

    Walk or ride the shuttle to the historic mountaintop and enjoy a tour of the rooms on the first floor of the house. Be sure to check out Jefferson's small greenhouse attached to his personal suite. If you're short on time, use a Grounds Ticket for access to all exterior areas and exhibits.

  • Kitchens and cooking at Monticello

    The lower level of the house and wings give visitors a glimpse into how enslaved chefs and cooks prepared often-elaborate meals in the kitchens of the South Wing. Don't miss the wine cellar and its dumbwaiter as you walk through the basement of the main house, and be sure to stop by the Farm Shop for a coffee, pastry, snack, or light lunch, located under the North Wing.

  • Take a Gardens and Grounds Tour

    Explore Monticello's restored flower and vegetable gardens on a guided Gardens and Grounds Tour. Hear stories about Jefferson's botanical experiments and ask our expert staff questions about your favorite plants. Included with all admission.

  • Enjoy a meal at the Café

    With seasonal menus, featured dishes from Culinary Diplomacy chefs, desserts, and products produced with ingredients from Monticello's gardens, the café is the perfect spot to wind down.

  • Take home a taste of Monticello

    Monticello's food and beverage line features products made with honey harvested onsite and Monticello-grown. Don't miss Jefferson Vineyards wines, Blue Mountain Brewery ales, and a Castle Hill Cider select cider, available daily in the café and our onsite shops

  • Wind down at Jefferson Vineyards

    Take a 5 minute drive to the vineyards, owned by Monticello, and enjoy wine made on-site, rotating food menus, and seasonal music series.
