The Grove

Jefferson designed the Monticello Grove to be an ornamental forest where he and his guests could enjoy what one visitor described as his "pet trees."

Trees at Monticello

Trees were perhaps Jefferson's favorite plants, and he grew a wide variety at Monticello.

Roundabouts

The Roundabouts encircled the Monticello Mountain and, with connecting roads, created an easier approach to the top.

Fences

Jefferson tried a variety of common and ambitious methods to protect his gardens.
