Site 3

The presence of creamware and pearlware ceramic sherds indicate that this area was occupied during Jefferson's lifetime and a few sherds of whiteware hint that the occupation may have continued after his death. Located just south of the main east-west farm road at Monticello, the inhabitants of this site most likely worked in the agricultural fields. The concentration of artifacts along the edge of a relatively steep ravine also points toward the placement of this quarter along the edge of agriculturally productive land.
