The domestic artifact assemblage from Site 17 which included a variety of refined earthenware ceramics and fragments of colorless leaded glass tableware was comparable to the overseer assemblage recovered from Site 7. Documentary research produced a historic map in Jefferson's hand showing that an overseer lived at this location (labelled "Overs's H" below). From the date of the plat (1809) we know that Edmund Bacon was the overseer for Jefferson's Monticello plantation.
