Join us for  a special TOM Talk with retired Shannon Senior Historian at Monticello, Lucia “Cinder” Stanton, and three descendants of Monticello’s enslaved community: Gayle Jessup White, Andrew Davenport, and Peggy Trotter Preacely.

Stanton, who spent more than thirty years researching the history of slavery at Monticello, will be joined by these descendants who participate in the Getting Word African American Oral History Project. Together they will discuss the free and enslaved African Americans with ties to Monticello who left a lasting impact on Charlottesville history and the history of the United States.

Offered as part of our 2020 TOM TalkSM series
