Later in life, Thomas Jefferson reflected that the Declaration of Independence “was intended to be an expression of the [American] mind.” The ideas and stories of the Declaration of Independence extend far beyond Jefferson and Philadelphia in June 1776.

In this video, we highlight Jefferson’s engravings of the Declaration of Independence (and his standing desk!) that have recently been installed in the Entrance Hall as part of a series of rotating exhibits. Hear the full story from Monticello Curator of Arts and History Emilie Johnson and come see it for yourself! The exhibit will be on display through the end of September 2023.
