"Monticello in Mind: Fifty Contemporary Poems on Jefferson" Virginia Festival of the Book

Join us for readings by eleven contemporary poets whose work appears in this new anthology on Jefferson, including Pulitzer Prize Winners Charles Wright and Rita Dove, current Poet Laureate of Virginia Ron Smith, Stephen Cushman, Debra Nystrom, Elizabeth Seydel Morgan, Jennifer Chang, Thorpe Moeckel, Paul Guest and David Wojahn.  Edited by Lisa Russ Spaar, poet, Professor of English and Creative Writing at the University of Virginia, these poems include the complex legacy of Jefferson and race, Jefferson as a figure of Enlightenment rationalism, and Jefferson as an early colonizer of the West. All eleven poets and Russ Spaar will sign books in The Shop at Monticello after this event.
