The domestic artifact assemblage from Site 17 which included a
variety of refined earthenware ceramics and fragments of colorless
leaded glass tableware was comparable to the overseer assemblage
recovered from Site 7. Documentary
research produced a historic map in Jefferson's hand showing that
an overseer lived at this location (labelled "Overs's H"
below). From the date of the plat (1809) we know that Edmund Bacon
was the overseer for Jefferson's Monticello plantation.
