The Saunders-Monticello Trail is one of the most popular trails in Charlottesville, and is open to the public free of charge. We rely on private donations to maintain the trail for nearly 140,000 annual walkers, runners, cyclists and birdwatchers. From now until Labor Day, a generous donor is matching every gift made in support of the Trail, up to a total of $10,000. By making a gift today, you can double your impact and help sustain this local treasure! Become a Friend of the Trail now! Benefits of Trail membership include two exclusive hikes up Montalto, overlooking Monticello, and a 25% discount in Monticello café!
Become a Friend of the Trail! Your generosity will enable us to:
Maintain the trails on a year-round basis so they are enjoyable and safe.
Provide the services of two full-time employees and two part-time trail rangers.
Preserve the Arboretum, with its 130+ species of native trees and shrubs.
Take care of the pond, with its wetland trees, grasses and water-loving birds, such as herons, Canada geese and ducks.
Provide trail maps and other information to trail users.
Friends receive invitations to two exclusive thank-you hikes up Montalto, overlooking Monticello – a sunrise hike in May and a sunset walk in October. Please check monticello.org/calendar for dates and times.
Friends also receive a Trail bumper sticker, a Trail postcard and a Friends of the Trail keychain. The keychain is good for 25% off in the Monticello Café!
